Wanted: Your recommendations

Modculture_new

Well, we've (almost) got a brand new website, now all that's needed is a serious update of the content.

We've got the album reviews covered, not to mention films and books (although it's always good to hear of new ones - and indeed new bands). But we could do with your help for the club listings, recommended shops, scooter dealers, barbers - you know the kind of thing.

If you can help with anything (nothing is too small), then please fire over an email to:
david@modculture.co.uk
- with the subject of what you're sending about (club, shop etc) and the details in the main body. Check out the current sections for the kind of info we need. If you have any ideas for news stories, fire them to the same address too.

Right now it's UK only, but we are considering expanding the shopping guides to worldwide. If you can help, drop us a line...it might just push us into doing it.

Dance - and win a Savile Row suit

Magicbus

We have mentioned the Magic Bus night before - and if you've not been down, here's an added incentive for you. You could win a Savile Row suit.

How? Well, Magic Bus at the Cock Tavern on Friday 13th June will feature special guest DJ William Hunt of Savile Row alongside Eddie Piller, Ivor Jones, Johnny Valatone and Dean Rudland. And there's a dancing competition with the prize of a bespoke Savile Row suit from William Hunt - male or female suit.

Flyer above, but if you can't see it, the address is The Cock Tavern, East Poultry, Smithfield Market, London EC1 (20 yards from Fabric), running from 9pm until 2am, £5 on the door.

What do you want on the site?

We're about to start our re-design of the website and to go along with it, we want to stick up a load of new content. We hope to expand and improve existing sections, but we need to know specifically what you are interested in.

Do you want more listings? More news? More reviews? And if so - what kind of reviews do you want - clubs, events, films, books, music or anything else?

And do you want more articles - and if so, what kind of articles? And who do you want us to interview? Or perhaps you want something more technical - like a radio station or downloads? Would you be interest in well-designed merchandising?

Please let us know your thoughts abut the above and anything else by contacting the site or leaving a comment below. And if you fancy contributing in any way at all, we're ALWAYS happy to hear from you.

Send Modculture your news stories

Modculturenews

We're making an effort to bring you news stories everyday - but we do need your help.

We need your news stories. This can be just about anything - club news, clothing (things you've seen online or in stores), music news, events, art/design, films, scootering, new band recommendations, cool websites, things you've seen in the media, new books - in fact, whatever you see that has any interest to a mod audience rather than just related to the mod scene.

So we can get things online quickly, we have set up a new inbox for your stories. Email anything you have to:
modculturenews@gmail.com

Please note:
You can still contact us in the normal way for general Modculture business, but unless you send details to the news email address, you'll not have your club, event, gig etc featured in the news section/frontpage (as this area is being looked after by separate people from the general site).

Timothy Everest Swank clasp cufflinks

Clasp_cufflinks

Still got some Christmas money left? You'll need plenty of it if you want to buy a pair of Timothy Everest limited edition Swank clasp cufflinks.

The trendy London tailor has based them on original 1940s Swank designs, producing a pair in 9 carat gold and a pair in silver with lapis lazuli stones. Just five pairs of the gold will be made and 20 of the silver, all being sold exclusively by the 20ltd website.

Now the downside - that price. If you want a pair, it will cost you £500 to join this exclusive club.

10 questions with DNA Groove's Claudio

Claudio The first of our 10 questions with... series is now online - and the first person to be interviewed (in a long time) by Modculture is Claudio De Rossi, founder of mod-friendly clothing label DNA Groove.

You can check out Claudio's interview in the interview section of the site, which also houses some of our older interviews, including the likes of Ian McLagan, Steve Ellis and Eddie Piller to name just three.

Expect a couple of new interviews with a range of people every week. And if you have any suggestions for people to interview, you know where we are.

10 questions with...

In an attempt to keep Modculture moving along with fresh content, we are starting a series of weekly interviews - and you could be one of them.

10 questions with... is exactly what it says - 10 questions with a range of people, from people on the mod scene past and present, to musicians, designers, clothing retailers, artists, DJs - in fact, just about anyone with a relevance with mod past, present or future.

Don't be shy - if you want to put yourself forward, please do so, we would love to hear from you. Or if you have a suggestion for someone we should interview, please tell us. Or finally, if you actually want to do the interview (which is as easy as compiling 10 questions in an email), again drop us a line - and the person you want to interview. Chances are we'll be able to get hold of them.

And watch out for the first interviews online later this week. More detailed interviews are to follow when the site re-design is completed.

Drop us a line about the interviews

All shirts are bespoke, made from either your own description or from images, with either your cloth or an in-house selection. Prices obviously vary depending on your requirements. Jaeger London - 60s-inspired fashion

Jaeger I can't say I'm a big Jaeger shopper, but their new menswear range - under the name Jaeger London - might be worth a look.

It's their attempt at pitching at a younger audience, but rather than going for a bad "mod" range, they claim their range is more inspired by the cut and style of the sixties -  - think camel trench coats, polo necks and mohair suits.

From what I've seen, it's worth a look, but with prices a bit on the high side. The picture featured here includes a camel hair car coat (£599), suit (£499), Jaquard shirt (£70) and a silk dogtooth tie (£50). The range is much more extensive than this and its probably worth a trip to your nearest store to check out the details/quality. And if you like what you see, might be some rich pickings come sale time.

There's also a women's range featured on the website, but so far, I've not been able to find out enough about that - more when I do.

John Pearse stylish slim ties

Johnpearse Ties are a tough one. It's never easy to find a good quality/stylish slim tie if you don't want to go down the vintage route - the last new one I bought was a plain coloured Prada one for an extortionate amount!

I don't think these John Pearse slim ties will be any cheaper, but they seem to have a lot more in terms of looks. If you didn't know, John was one of the founders of Granny Takes A Trip alongside Nigel Waymouth, with John being the clothes maker (with a Savile Row apprenticeship behind him). After an extended break, he's still making clothes in London today.

And these ties are part of the range on offer. Slim, squared-off ending and with vibrant designs. All are made to order, with prices on application.

Tailoring section updated

Tailoring I've taken the opportunity of some spare time today to update the Modculture tailoring section of the website. The address is the same, it's still at:

http://www.modculture.co.uk/tailor/

The pages should now load properly both on the Mac and in Firefox. I've also added to and updated the recommended tailors listing. If you know of any more on top of what's on the site, we'd love to know the details. You can add them via a link in the tailoring section or click here. If you have ideas to improve further, again, we'd like to hear from you.
