1960s Chelsea Facebook group

I spotted this over on Paul Gorman's The Look blog, the Facebook group Epicentre of creativity World's End chelsea SW10 in the 1960s that is.

It is what it says, a focal point for 1960s 'dandy' photos from around the King's Road in the 1960s. The kind of thing you might have seen recently in the V&A's The Day of the Peacock book. Pictured in the image above (to the left) is one of the contributors, Alan Holston. He worked at Dandie Fashions, which was found in South Kensington and later on the King's Road itself. He left in 1968, when it underwent transformation into the Beatles-funded Apple Tailoring, shifting to a career in the music business.

Check out all of Alan's photos (including some superb shots of mid to late-60s suits) on the Facebook page, plus much more besides. Certainly one to watch.

BBC mods and rockers gallery

Think this is a new gallery (although I've seen some of the photos before), so this mods and rockers gallery on the BBC Sussex site is worth a quick look.

According to the site, all the images are from the bank holiday riots of 1964 in the area - so check 'em out if you like that kind of thing.

Fred Perry 2011 range preview

We've just been sent a batch of images showing off the forthcoming men’s Laurel Wreath collection from Fred Perry for spring and summer 2011. All of which should be in the stores from the early to mid-part of 2011.

Rather than showing just one or two shots and talking about generally, we've created an online gallery featuring a lartge number of the shots in large format, so you can check them out at your leisure. According to the company, the new range mixes a 50s twist with the more typical 60s-style items, including a 50s-style tennis bomber, a madras-style harrington jacket and a reissue of the original Fred Perry 'Empire' shoe.

David Bowie 1947 - 1974 book release

On the face of it, Any Day Now: David Bowie The London Years (1947 - 1974) by Kevin Cann might not be obvious Modculture fodder, but some of the images within are sure to be of interest to anyone with an interest in this site and the 60s era.

Published by Adelita, this 336-page book charts the early life and career of Bowie, his time in London (as the title suggests). It's also packed with rare and never-published-before images and memorabilia, including shots mixing it with Steve Marriott and the Pretty Things through to the historic letter confirming his name change from David Jones to David Bowie.
