Super 8 app for iPhone and iPad

by Modculture 20 May, 2011

Knowing how many of you are into vintage photography and judging by the forum, knowing a lot of you have an iPhone, this Super 8 app for iPhone and iPad is likely to prove popular. It’s free too, making it a better proposition than the similar iSupr8 app.

Essentially it turns your mobile phone or tablet into a super 8 film camera, without the film obviously. You shoot at the touch of a button, with the option to switch lenses, throw in filters and add someshake effects.  When you are done, you send it off to be developed (another push of a button), then you can view it in your projector room (on our phone) or export it to a computer / share it with friends.

Seven lens effects in total, plus three animated filters, a scratch and dirt overlay and those shake effects offer real authenticity and as we said – it’s absolutely free. Only free for a limited time though, so grab it now.

New Scootitude magazine

by Modculture 20 May, 2011

Remember last month, we told you about Scootitude magazine? Well, a new copy is out, with plenty of mod interest in the new issue too.

The downside obviously is that this is a French magazine (unless you speak French of course), but there's plenty of interesting images and a new feature by Enamel Verguren (aka Manu), author of the '80s-based  This Is A Modern World and more recently, I'm Not Like Everybody Else, which covers the '90s mod scene. This feature is on the mod revival.

You can see some scans over the page and if you want a copy, chase one up at the website. Maybe Scootering magazine can re-run it in English? Just a thought.

Swamp Dogg CD reviewed

by Modculture 20 May, 2011

It's actually been out a little while now, but better late than never is certainly the case for the new Swamp Dogg collection, which goes by the name of It's All Good and is available via Ace/Kent.

Mark Raison has reviewed the album by Swamp Dogg, real name Jerry Williams, which takes in his material predominately from the 60s, but going as late as the 80s (just one track from that decade, you'll be pleased to know).

Check out the review online now.

Fred Perry Re-Issues polo shirts

by Modculture 20 May, 2011

You can't beat a good talking point – and I suspect that the latest Fred Perry Blank Canvas Re-Issues polo shirt range will certainly create some discussion.

Fred Perry is reissuing four classic shirts from their archive, said to represent four movements through the 50s, 60s and 70s. All details have been closely looked at from the weight of the pique and the style of the buttons to the fabric used on the back neck label. That's the good point, it's the other detailing, at least on some of the shirts, which might provoke discussion.

Record Collector – June edition

by Modculture 17 May, 2011

The cover actually features Iron Maiden. Thankfully, the inner pages of Record Collector this month (June edition) are far more interesting. Shame that didn't make the front page!

The magazine has an extensive feature on skinhead reggae, how to collect it and a top 51 tracks to seek out, complete with values. In addition, genre rarity Reggae With The Hippy Boys is also offered in the magazine as a limited edition of 350 on vinyl, the latest instalment of the magazine's Rare Record Club. There's also a two-page feature on that record. To finish the theme, see also an article on 'scary youth cults'.

Of course, there's also the usual sales, reviews, articles etc on top of that. The June edition is out now, £4 at your local magazine seller (or free for a read at WH Smiths in your lunch hour).

Mods wanted for paid photo shoot

by Modculture 17 May, 2011

Want some money? There's some paid photo shoot work for mods on offer, but as you might expect, it does come with conditions.

It's for a shoot for 'a famous Parisian department store' commercial, with the date being 10th June and the location London. You'll get £180 for your troubles.

Those conditions? You'll need to be between 17 and 25 and have 'a good sense of style'. If that sounds like you, drop the people running it a line at info@castingreal.com. Don't forget to attach a 'clear' picture of yourself. Nothing to do with this site though, so make sure all enquiries sent there.

by Modculture 12 May, 2011

The range has been fairly limited since Brutus Trimfit made its return to the market, but this summer promises to change all that, with seven new shirt designs scheduled to appear both inshore and online.

All will be available in sizes small to extra large and all have the classic detailing, including a button-down collar, box pleat in the back and a slim fit.

One above, five more shots over the page, with a further heritage tartan also to join the range. Expect them towards June, £50 is the approximate price.
