Groovesville USA by Keith Rylatt

Groovesville

This has slipped past us somehow, but if you were a fan of CENtral 1179 (the Twisted Wheel Story), you might want to check out Groovesville USA, the new book by Keith Rylatt.

As you might have guessed, Groovesville USA looks at Detroit’s soul and R&B scene. Yes, Motown is a part of that, but this 320-page book looks at the wider scene, the hundreds of singers, musicians, producers and songwriters who also made a living and a lot of music outside of Motown.

Heavily researched, it offers up a history of the development of black music in Detroit, an exhaustive A-Z of the city’s artists and musicians, and an equally detailed A-Z of the area’s labels and record companies plus plenty of photographs, press ads, radio station flyers, newspaper clippings, and record labels. You can only buy it directly from  the author, selling for £27.50 plus postage and packing.
