John 'Hoppy' Hopkins festival

If you've got an interest in 60s London or the counter-culture of the era, you might want to get yourself down to the Lexi Cinema at 194b Chamberlayne Road, Kensal Rise, London NW10 for the John 'Hoppy' Hopkins festival.

From the 20th of August, the Lexi will be hosting the work of counter-culture incendiary and 1960s roving photojournalist, John ‘Hoppy’ Hopkins. An activist and revolutionary himself, Hoppy also recorded everything from the mass rallies to the squalid intimacy of bedsits that hosted the freaks, tearaways and bohemians of the day, along with the 60s London they were part of.

You can check out the photo exhibition for free anytime, while from 8pm on 20th August, the cinema will have a special screening of films, starting with Against Tyranny, a documentary about Hoppy’s life and work, supported by three short films made by Hoppy himself and collaborator Sue Hall - Ben’s Arrest, Squat Now and Song of Long Ago.
