Free Babylon screening in London

Babylon

I love Babylon, a lost Brit classic that finally got the reissue it deserved a few months back. If you didn't pick it up and you happen to be in the capital, you can catch a free Babylon screening in London this weekend, specifically Sunday 12th July 2009.

It takes place as part of the Soul Jazz 100% Dynamite event, but with the screening being at 2:30pm, you can always skip out if you don't fancy their later mix of reggae, dancehall, funk, soul and dub, which takes place over two floors of Cafe 1001, Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, E1 until 11pm.

If you haven't heard of the movie, it's essentially the tale of a group of black youths in South London in 1980, showing the highs of life and the sound systems of the day and the lows of the racism, unemployment and decaying streets. Check out here for a review of the recently-reissued DVD.
