Cadillac Records now on DVD/Blu-ray

Cadillac_records

If you (like me), missed Cadillac Records at the cinema, you can now rent or buy the DVD or Blu-ray disc.

For the uninitiated, Cadillac Records is Hollywood's take on the Chess label, created just after the Second World War in Chicago by Leonard Chess (Adrien Brody), the son of Polish immigrants, to promote young black performers, primarily from the South of the US. That means a host of blues and soul icons being taken off by modern-day actors and performers - including Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright), Howlin' Wolf (Eamonn Walker), Chuck Berry (Mos Def) and Etta James (Beyoncé Knowles).

The name is down to Chess's practice of giving his artists a Cadillac to celebrate their first record apparently, with the story coming to an end in '69, when Chess takes his own Cadillac to the big garage in the sky. Reviews seem to be mixed, so it's hard to give it the 'thumbs up' without seeing it personally. But if you like the sound of it, you can bag one at Amazon for just under £10 on DVD or around £15 on Blu-ray.
