Fred Perry Spring 2008 collection out now

Their polo shorts may be perennial sartorial favourites for modernists, but Fred Perry are no slackers when it comes to producing new designs around classic themes.Fred_p

The Fred Perry Spring 2008 collection is now out, and features all the usual shirts, knitwear and jackets we have come to know and except from them. However it is always worth looking beyond these items. And right now it is their 'limited edition' items that garner most attention, especially what they call their 'laurel classics' range. Here the traditional polo shirt has a flatter collar option, as well as contrasting piping options (which is also available on some of the knitwear range too).

There are many other items to choose from within the laurel classics range. The pick of the mens range has got to be the lightweight wax version of the Harrington, which looks beautiful in shimmering black (and will set you back £175). The womens range features a number of figure-hugging dresses, which to these eyes look like quite an acquired taste. But the one item that does without doubt look superb  is the penny collar shirt. Made from 100% silk sateen, it features a very tasteful pleated front and, unusually, the Fred Perry laurel at waist level. The price quoted for this shirt is £95.
