Another 60s gem gets a rare one-off screening at the NFT – Smashing Time.
Possibly showing as part of a George Melly tribute (he had a hand in the scripting), the movie is the ultimate swinging 60s flick, with Lynn Redgrave and Rita Tushingham starring as two young girls from Bradford, looking to live the swinging London dream on Carnaby Street. They want the modelling jobs, the clothes and the lifestyle – and eventually get it, but entirely by accident. Is it worth it? Well, you’ll have to watch the film to find out.
The organisers also hope to have Rita Tushingham for a Q&A after the screening, so well worth making the effort to get down. It’s on Tuesday 20th November at 6.15pm.

He is one of the most lauded pop producers of all time, creator of the famous "wall of sound". But his ground-breaking achievements with the Beatles, the Ronettes, Tina Turner and the Ramones have recently been eclipsed by a Hollywood murder trial. By getting access to reclusive Spector’s closest family, those he worked with, and former friends, this insightful film lifts the lid on his troubled life.

Richard Karstrom has a lot of flyers – as a DJ, club regular and editor of the Uppers site, he's probably got 100s knocking about. Which is why he has set up Club Ink.
Club Ink shows off the artwork of the mod scene past and present, from the UK, Europe and beyond. There's around 300 up there already, with more being added all the time. Enjoy a bit of nostalgia – or just marvel at the quality of homemade flyers, many with very stylish retro design, created with absolutely no budget and probably very little training.
View the flyers at the Club Ink website

I’m not a big magazine reader these days, but I did manage to browse Arena magazine this month and for good reason – it gives Modculture a glowing reference.
Yes, in its ‘Arena Approves’ section, where it picks its five hot things for the month, amongst the selection is the Modculture website. According to the write-up, it says: "The only site to link Bass Weejun loafers and a list of the country’s best tailors. Comprehensive doesn’t even come close."
All this on the month I didn’t actually update – they’ll probably have a seizure in November!

Fancy yourself as King Of The Mods? You need some King Of The Mods hair wax.
It’s available from cosmetic retailer Lush and according to its website, "it shines hair, moisturises and holds softly in place no matter the adventure. Like Mods themselves, it’s controlled but not hard." It’s also good for your scalp (so they say) and good for waking you up in the morning, thanks to the tangy smell.
Whatever it does to your head, it’s certainly an amusing thing to have in the bathroom. It retails for £6.95.
